Clinical Trials for Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of irreversible visual loss in the United States. (National Society to Prevent Blindness 1980) The manifestations of AMD are broken down into two forms: dry and wet or exudative. The wet form accounts for ~ 10% - 20% of cases, and is responsible for ~ 80%-90% of vision loss. (Ferris et al. 1984)

There remains a significant unmet need for therapeutic options in AMD, and The Retina Group of Washington is contributing to the advancement of these new treatments by participating in federally approved research studies. For more information on the research studies currently recruiting, contact our clinical research department and make an appointment with one of our physicians for an evaluation.
